The Sigma Beta Club was established in 1950 by the national voting body of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
Inc.
The mission was to establish a mentoring program for disadvantaged youth.
It has evolved into an internationally recognized youth auxiliary group that continues to be orchestrated by members of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
Inc.
The local Sigma Beta Club of Irvington, and Newark School Districts is a program that is managed by the Chi Sigma Chapter, Inc., which is a local chapter
of the Fraternity, serving
Northern New Jersey.
The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of The Sigma Beta Clubs (SBC) of Irvington, Plainfield, and Newark, which is a mentoring program,
operated by members of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Chi Sigma Chapter of Northern New Jersey.
A key objective of this document is to create greater awareness of the program and it’s successes to-date. It will be used as one of several
tools to secure the necessary funding and support toward the continued growth and expansion of this long-standing community-based mentoring
program.
This document is not intended to be a standalone request for funding, and therefore doesn’t contain all of the prerequisite financial and legal
information, but merely a vehicle that provides sufficient insight into the program’s history, objectives, scope, structure and overall
impact.
